The Formula Racing team headed off to the streets of California at the Long Beach track for the penultimate round of the GRC GP79 Cup. Returning to his seat in the team was Ian Mill's, making a comeback after a break from racing, the Englishman driving the teams Williams showed all of his great speed and composure on this challenging track. Taking the pole position for the race by nearly a second, Ian showed all of the speed he is renowkned for. ![]() The Start of the Long Beach GRC Classic Grand Prix Lining up 2nd on the grid FRO's Robert Fakes, outqualifying the Slovakian driver, Peter Svan. Taking the 4th place on the grid, Phil Roberts completing the first 2 rows. From the green light, Peter Svan has a fantastic start and was able to pass Robert and Ian into T1. Running a lower wing setting in his car to maximise its speed on the only straight on this track, gains peter the lead of the opening lap. Ian Mill's is not a man to give in easily though, and battle commences over the first 10 laps with the lead changing many times.Ian passing Peter in the corners, Peter passing Ian on the straights before making a gap and being able to pull away. Roberts race was short lived, the fragile engine in the Williams giving way on lap 4, promoting Phil up into the P3 position. With Rob out, Phil looks secure in the P3 position, running solidly in the quest for points on this demanding track. ![]() Ian and Peter Svan, locked in heavy battle in the first 10 laps. Ian, pulling away in the lead is able to set the fastest laps of the race when he has a gap to Peter and clean air, a pace Peter is not able to match. Looking settled in P2, and looking for those important points in the teams battle at the head of the GRC Cup standings.
Phil, Ian and Peter battle into T1 Overall another great event for the Formula Racing team, taking Pole, Leading most laps, Fastest Lap and the Win. Coming away from California with a good lead going onto the final event back home in England at Brands Hatch. Follow the team's effort to lift the GRC Cup next Monday night. |
